Information signs primarily serve the purpose of conveying information that assists drivers and pedestrians in navigating roadways safely and effectively. Such signs are characterized by their focus on directions, traffic rules, and general information that enhances situational awareness.

Providing directions is a fundamental function of information signs, guiding drivers to destinations such as cities, landmarks, or exits. These signs help ensure that travelers can find their way without confusion.

Indicating traffic rules is another essential function, as these signs communicate important regulations that must be followed for safe driving and to promote adherence to roadway laws.

Offering general information is also a key role of information signs, encompassing a wide range of messages such as points of interest, services available, and local area information that can aid drivers in their journey.

While displaying warnings is an important aspect of road signage, it falls under a different category termed warning signs. These signs alert drivers to potential hazards or changes in road conditions, such as sharp curves, pedestrian crossings, or construction zones. Warning signs serve a distinct purpose from that of information signs, which focus on providing guidance and informative messages rather than alerts about immediate dangers.
